In order to figure out the filter, we have to first find a photo taken with the telephoto lens. Filter to Only Telephoto Images Using Focal Length We now want to further filter this down to just those taken with the telephoto camera, but we have some work to do before we can figure out how to match the telephoto images only. In my Photos library I now have a match for 3,825 photos and videos taken with my iPhone 13 Pro. It should start to autofill for you which helps with getting the spelling and spaces correctly entered. Change the second dropdown to “Is” and in the third dropdown enter the camera model, “iPhone 13 Pro”. I can change the dropdown of the condition from “Photo” to “Camera Model”. In my example, we want to find iPhone 13 Pro photos first, and then we’ll narrow it down to find the ones with the telephoto lens. In my example, I have 1417 favorite photos. By default the condition for this new Smart Album will be Photo is favorite. In Apple Photos, start by selecting My Albums in the left sidebar. The path to do this is more circuitous than I would have thought, which is why I’m setting up this story. One way to gather data on which lenses you really use on your cameras is through Smart Albums in Apple Photos. You might think you use it really often, but wouldn’t empirical data to make that decision be even better? The 13 Pro has a 3X telephoto, but you’re wondering how often you really use it. So let’s say you have an iPhone 13 Pro and you’re considering that upgrade to the 14 or 14 Pro. One of the differentiators of higher-end iPhones is their optical zoom capabilities. Perhaps you’ve always gone top-of-the-line because of the cameras, but this year you’re wondering whether that’s actually justified. Let’s say the next iPhone is coming out and you’re trying to decide which model you might need. This is a great tool if you’ve partially organized your photos and added some photos to albums, but not all the ones you think should be in albums.Ĭreate Year Smart Albums of Photos Not in Albumsįor Smart Album Name: type the title, i.e.I’ve been working on smart albums inside Apple Photos and I’ve found some interesting things. Please note smart albums only display in the Photos application on Mac computers, not on iPhones or iPads.Īnother smart album I like to create is one showing the photos from a specific year that have not been added to any albums. Now repeat the steps to create a smart album for 2022. The 2021 smart album displays in the left sidebar beneath My Albums. The 2022 smart album will set you up for photo organizing success in 2022. The 2021 smart album will help you organize last year’s photos if you haven’t yet done so. In the steps below, I’ll walk you through creating two smart albums in the Photos application on your Mac computer, one for 2021 and another for 2022. Be reminded of fun moments, special occasions and best of all, see the smiling faces of the people and pets you adore. This allows you to view a small segment of your photos library and easily delete, favorite and find photos you’d like to add to albums, such as a special event album or trip album.Ī bird’s eye view of a specific year also offers you a year in review to enjoy…scroll through the photos to see what you experienced in a particular year. In this case, all your photos from the year specified will be grouped together. Year smart albums are helpful for breaking down your photo organizing project into smaller parts. Since it’s a new year ~ Happy 2022! ~ it’s the perfect time for creating a new year smart album. Albums are manually created and you have to add the photos to the albums. Smart albums are automatic and will automatically search your entire Apple Photos Library and add the photos that meet the conditions you specified. And if you import photos at a later date that meet those same conditions, they will automatically be added to the same smart albums. Specify certain conditions and voila! smart albums will automatically group photos by the criteria you selected. Smart albums are an excellent way to organize your photos more easily.
